In 2024, the world will celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding thinker Immanuel Kant. The city of Kant, Kaliningrad, will become the place where a real celebration of philosophy will unfold, and numerous anniversary events will take place. For this day, the staff of the Library department of foreign literature (4, Turgeneva St., room 356) have prepared for you a new exhibition «Birthday person of the month: 300 years of Immanuel Kant».
Immanuel Kant is a great German philosopher, one of the central thinkers of the Enlightenment. All of Kant's outward and systematic works in the fields of epistemology, metaphysics, ethics and aesthetics made him one of the most influential figures in Western philosophy of the modern era. An interesting fact from the life of a thinker has been preserved in history. During the Seven Years' War in 1758, when Koenigsberg was captured by Russian troops, Kant swore allegiance to Empress Elizabeth Petrovna. So the famous philosopher became a subject of the Russian Empire.
Kant believed that reason is also the source of morality and that aesthetics arises from the faculty of disinterested judgment. Kant's views continue to have a major influence on modern philosophy, especially in the fields of ethics, political theory, and postmodern aesthetics. The exhibition features books dedicated to the philosophical thoughts of Immanuel Kant, including one of his main works, “Critique of Pure Reason.” We also did not ignore scientific works on moral philosophy, for example, the book Jean-Marie Guyau «Esquisse d'une morale sans obligation, ni sanction» or philosophy in general: W Rod «Der Weg der Philosophie: Von den Anfangen bis ins 20 Jh».
We will be glad to see you at the exhibition, which will last until the end of May, and, of course, we will help you to choose the right book!
