The Sverdlovsk Region has many unique natural and cultural attractions that have become tourist brands creating its unique image for residents, tourists and visitors. The Sverdlovsk region is famous for the beauty of its nature. These are majestic mountains, mysterious caves, clean and transparent lakes and fish rivers.

A series of posts from the University Library will help you discover new geographical and historical facts and experiences. Join us and share interesting content with your friends!

And we start our acquaintance with the region from the Ural Ridge – a unique point on our planet, which is the conventional border between Europe and Asia.

The Ural Mountains cross Russia from north to south and are more than two thousand kilometres long. The highest point of the Sverdlovsk region is Konzhakovsky Kamen – its height is 1569 metres above sea level. It is a great place for mountain lovers. Since 1996, the Konzhak mountain marathon has been held here every summer, which gathers up to several thousand participants from all over Russia and other countries.

Among the interesting routes for hiking is the Kachkanar Mountain, which has an elongated shape with two peaks 878 and 866 metres high. The only Buddhist monastery in the Sverdlovsk Region and the entire Urals was located here not so long ago. Today, only the temple's religious buildings have been preserved: stupas and a statue of Buddha, the rest of the buildings have been demolished. The demolition of the monastery was required to start the development of a new quarry.

All summer long the Library has an exposition "Biblionavigator of the Sverdlovsk region", which presents the most interesting and colourful editions devoted to the unique monuments of the natural heritage of the largest region of the Urals. The books are presented in the Library Exhibition Hall at 4 Turgeneva Street, Room 267. You can visit the hall on weekdays from 9:00 to 17:00. We will be glad to see you in our Library!
