Every year on 9 September, Russia celebrates the Day of Graphic Designer – a professional holiday for those who create visual images of graphic objects, develop layouts for books, magazines, websites, applications, software, fonts and logos, and create web design. The labour of graphic artists is used in advertising, information media, animated films. The holiday was established in 2005 to mark the 50th anniversary of Vladimir Chaika, one of the country's brightest and best-known graphic designers, winner of numerous awards at international competitions.

The profession of graphic designer is one of the most in-demand creative professions due to the development of the media and advertising industry. One of the peculiarities of the profession is the need for constant learning and development. It is important for such a specialist to be able to adapt to changes and keep up to date with the latest innovations, because technologies and trends in graphic design are constantly changing.

In the collection of the University Library you can find textbooks, reference books and practical guides on graphic design. In these books, professionals share their experience: where they get ideas, how they develop creative thinking, what techniques and methods they use in their work. If you are an aspiring graphic designer or just observing the profession, we recommend paying attention to our Printed editions. Hard copy books are available at Liberal Arts & Humanities Circulation Desk (4 Turgeneva Street, Room 252) and Liberal Arts & Humanities Reading Room (19 Mira Street, Room Б-203). You can check the availability of books in the library by Library Catalogue.
