8 December is the International Day of the Artist. The holiday was established in 2007 by the International Association «The Art of the Peoples of the World».

The profession of an artist is one of the oldest – people have been striving to capture important events of their lives long before the advent of writing. In today's world, fine art is represented by a multitude of trends - from academic painting to street art. And digital technologies make it possible to enjoy the works of old and new masters anywhere in the world.

Ekaterinburg is rightly considered a city of artists. The active artistic life gave birth to many interesting figures: Vitaly Volovich, Misha Brusilovsky, German Metelev became artists here. The works of these and other world-renowned painters, true creators of the city's history, are included in the album «Seven Ekaterinburg Artists» (Liberal Arts & Humanities Reading Room, 19 Mira Street).

In the city there are art studios, art schools, many museums and art galleries of various directions. In the University Library there is an illustrated book-album Bulavin V. S. «Sverdlovsk Picture Gallery», which tells about the history and the main collections of the largest art museum in the Urals, now called the Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts (Liberal Arts & Humanities Circulation Desk, 4 Turgeneva Street).

Getting acquainted with the work of artists allows you to expand your knowledge and outlook, and for this purpose the University Library has a wide range of publications. We invite you to the Library and remind you that you can check the availability of books with the help of Library Catalogue.
