On 21 January, the world celebrates International Postgraduate Student Day. This holiday is dedicated to young scientists who are seriously engaged in scientific research, make discoveries, implement large-scale projects and teach at universities. The notion that a scientist is an elderly, absent-minded geek living in a world of abstract concepts is long outdated. Modern scientists descend into the crater of a volcano, search for meteorite fragments in the desert, teach robots to talk, calculate mathematical models of the heart, and improve the industrial performance of metals with the help of nanoparticles. And they are rapidly getting younger! Few people today can be surprised by a 40-year-old professor and a 25-year-old candidate of sciences. But in order to achieve this, one should get involved in scientific research as a student. The Ural Federal University has created ample opportunities for this. Look around – your classmates spend their nights watching unique experiments in laboratories, working in a lean manufacturing factory, calculating ergonomic schemes, modelling «smart houses» and doing other exciting things. They participate in authoritative scientific forums, receive certificates and grants. They live to the fullest now and prepare a springboard to an eventful scientific life tomorrow. The Council of Young Scientists, the Department of Youth Science and Organization of Scientific Events actively assist students in this endeavor (contacts can be easily found on the Youth Science Portal) ... and University Library! Technics & Engineering Circulation Desk (19 Mira Street, Room Б-201) invites you to an exhibition of educational and methodological materials to help you write scientific papers of all levels: from selecting and analyzing research material to completing a paper in accordance with the standards and requirements of the university. The exhibition will last until the end of February. Interested? Get involved! In the Ural Federal University Library you can get books and scientific journals, access electronic resources, attend educational seminars and trainings. The Library is your guide to the world of science and education! Author: Olga Konopleva
