Every year on April 2nd, the birthday of the great Danish storyteller Hans Christian Andersen, whose fairy tales have been read by generations of children, International Children’s Book Day is celebrated. Its celebration was established in 1967 on the initiative and decision of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY). Children’s literature appeared relatively recently. Until the mid-17th century, children were mainly told fairy tales or fables orally, but the main focus of children’s reading was the study of the Bible. It was only in the 19th century that works were specifically written for children, in particular, the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm and Andersen. Currently, children’s literature is a whole separate area in literature, the main function of which is to captivate and entertain the young reader. A book is our faithful friend since childhood, which will always teach us something new, immerse us in a wonderful world of fascinating journeys and interesting discoveries. Ural Federal University Library joins in this good holiday and invites parents and children to celebrate it with a trip to the library. An exhibition has opened in the Liberal Arts & Humanities Reading Room (19 Mira Street, Room Б-203), which presents books for children, teenagers, and for family reading – fairy tales, adventures, novels, and stories. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the classics of Russian and foreign children’s literature, as well as with modern writers, whose works can equally stand alongside classic children’s literature. The exhibition will last until the end of April. If you want to know about the availability of other books in the library, use the Library Catalogue. Author: Lyudmila Kildeeva
