12 April 1961 was the day when the Vessel Satellite “Vostok” was launched into outer space to make the first human spaceflight in history. Ever since then this day has been celebrated as Cosmonautics Day in Russia, or as the Day of the First Human Spaceflight worldwide. The first celebration took place in 1962, exactly one year after Yuri Gagrin’s flight.
People have always been enchanted by the outer space and the distant stars and planets, and a centuries old dream had finally come true in the previous century: technology has not only helped us in starting up the research equipment but also in making the first steps outside the planet Earth. People have successfully “walked” the Moon and returned, while our spaceships had already left the Solar System.
Every achievement is a result of tremendous work of scientists and developers. If you want to learn how spaceship building began, who stood at the origins of the main events, what achievements modern cosmonautics is renowned for, you could address the library collection and choose a book to your liking.
