To mark the anniversary of the Great Victory Day, The Circulation Desk of Foreign Literature (4 Turgeneva, St., room 356) have prepared an exhibition featuring photo albums, books and archival documents in foreign languages covering the events of the war years, which allow us to look at what happened from a different perspective and perhaps from a broader view. Among them:
Julius Madera's German-language book Dr.-Sorge-Report, about the Soviet spy Richard Sorge, highlights his key role in informing Moscow of Germany's plans to attack the Soviet Union. The author describes Sorge's working methods, his network of informants and the tragic ending.
In Soviet Military Deception in the Second World War, military historian David Glantz examines how the Soviet Union effectively used disinformation (disguise, simulation, radio games) to mislead German troops and achieve strategic and tactical advantages on the Eastern Front. The book includes examples of specific operations such as Operation Bagration and the Battle of Moscow.
In A World at Arms: A Global History of World War II, American diplomat Gerhard Weinberg analyses the events of the Second World War, which took place not only in the European theatre of war, but also in Asia, Africa and the Pacific. The author seeks to show the war as a global conflict where political, economic, ideological and social factors are interconnected. Special attention is paid to the role of the ideologies of fascism and national socialism in unleashing the war. And an important aspect of the work is the consideration of the consequences of the war.
The presented studies can supplement the existing knowledge with new facts and judgements about the events of the Great Patriotic War. The exhibition is open to the public until 31 May inclusive. Everyone is welcome to visit the exhibition!
