The Ural Music Night Festival will take place on 27 June 2025 in our cultural and beautiful city of Yekaterinburg for the 11th time! This year will be an anniversary for the festival, because exactly ten years ago, in 2015, the first Ural Music Night was held, bringing together 70,000 guests and more than a thousand musicians from all over the world. Last year, the festival attracted 380,000 guests and more than 2,500 musicians, immersing a huge number of fans in a sea of diverse music from 106 stages. The unprecedented rise of the regional festival has allowed it to become part of the cultural code and brand of Yekaterinburg, which is known far beyond the Urals. Ural Music Night blurs the boundaries between academic art and street culture: a symphony orchestra can play in an open-air square, and electronic musicians can perform in old manors. For Yekaterinburg, which has always been a bridge between Europe and Asia, this is a way to declare itself as a city of avant-garde culture. And for residents and visitors to the city, it is a chance to hear what is normally only available in concert halls. From the philharmonic to factory workshops, from parks to rooftops, music is everywhere, and most importantly, it is free. The key feature of the festival is accessibility. There are no age restrictions or dress codes. A grandmother with her grandson, a hipster and a conservatory professor – everyone finds themselves in the same stream of sound.
Liberal Arts & Humanities Circulation Desk (4 Turgeneva Street, Room 252) will help you immerse yourself in the world of Ural music with the help of Mikhail Orlov's book "Sverdlovsk Rock: A Monument to a Myth," Vyacheslav Bondarenko's book Encyclopedia of Popular Music about the formation of the pop music industry in the 21st century, and Natalya Nagibina's book Masters of Russian Jazz about outstanding Russian performers in this genre. You can check the availability of books in the library's electronic catalogue.
