1. Where is the Library?
Ural Federal University Library is located in three campuses:
• 19 Mira Street
• 4 Turgeneva Street
• 48 Kuybysheva Street
The addresses of the departments, Circulation Desks, Reading Rooms and Information Centres.

2. When is the Library open?
Opening hours:
• Monday to Friday – 9.00-19.00
• Saturday – 9.00-16.00
• Sunday – closed
• Last Wednesday of each month – cleaning day.

July-August:
• Monday to Thursday – 9.00-17.00
• Friday – 9.00-16.00
• Saturday, Sunday – closed
Please consult the website for the list of opening hours of all the departments.

3. Who can use the Library?
Current Staff, Students and Members of Ural Federal University are welcome to use the Library. Natural and legal external users also can use the Library.

4. I do not study or work at Ural Federal University. Can I use the Library?
Not affiliated to UrFU users have the right:
To use the Library information resources and services free of charge:
• get reading access only to the Library collection in Reading Rooms and Information Centres;
• use information e-resources in the University corporate network including licensed full-text databases in accordance with conditions of use;
• get information on the Library book collection and e-resources via the catalogues;
• get experts’ assistance in searching for information.
Use additional services for a fee in accordance with the Price approved by the Rector. Please consult the Price on the website (in Russian).
All readers are required to present a proof of identity for admission to University and Library. A temporary library card is given for using Library.

5. Where can I join the Library and get a library card / a student card with the Library barcode?
A library / student card with the Library barcode gives the right to use all the required library and bibliographic services, resources, and to borrow items.
The students having a library / student card with the Library barcode are admitted to all the Library departments without additional documents.
The students having a student card without the Library barcode can either receive a library card (please bring a photo 3*4) or stick a barcode in their student cards.
Ural federal university faculty, staff and postgraduates can join Library at any Circulation Desk. Please bring a photo 3*4 and a University card.
Trainees, part-timers and extra-mural postgraduates can join Library at any Circulation Desk (please bring a photo for a library card). This category is admitted to Reading Rooms and Information Centres only.
You can apply for a library card at the following Circulation Desks:

6. Why my data is not in the Library database?
Absence of a student’s data in user database can be explained by delay in approving application for admission in your Institute.

7. Where can I study in the Library?
You can visit our Reading Rooms and Information Centres for your individual work. Admission to the Reading Rooms is free; to enter Information Centres you will need to show your library / student card. You are welcome to use your laptop in the Library.

8. Can I take my outerwear or food to a Reading Room?
In accordance with the Rules of Conduct for Readers it is prohibited to enter the Library departments in outerwear and to take food and drinks. Outerwear may be left in the University Locker Room.

9. Is there Wi-Fi in the Library?
UrFU has free Wi-Fi Internet using UrFU user personal account and a guest Wi-Fi network. For details please consult UrFU website.


10. Where can I get textbooks?
First- and second-year students can borrow a compulsory set of textbooks in accordance with a schedule placed on the Library website at the beginning of academic year:
• Circulation Desk: Natural Sciences (48 Kuybysheva Street, Room 254) – Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
• Circulation Desk: Liberal Arts and Humanities (4 Turgeneva Street, Room 252) – Ural Institute of Humanities, Institute of Public Administration and Entrepreneurship
Circulation Desk: Technics & Engineering (19 Mira Street, Room Б-201) – all other institutes
During academic year all available textbooks and scientific items required for making reports can be borrowed at any Circulation Desk. Please consult the addresses of all the Circulation Desks, Reading Rooms and Information Centres.
Electronic books are available:
• in Electronic Library Systems
• on the portal of information education resources (ПИОР)
• in UrFU electronic repository
Access to the Electronic Library Systems is free from UrFU corporate network. However, to obtain remote access you need to register within UrFU network. Please register in the Library departments.

11. How long can I borrow an item for?
Loan periods:
• Study materials – for a semester.
• Scientific materials – up to 1 month.
• Literary and art items and periodicals – up to 1 month.
• Items in high-use categories – up to 10 days.
Loan periods are indicated on return lists stuck inside a book cover. Automatic lending procedure means that the loan period is indicated in a cheque.
It is prohibited to borrow the last and only items from the Library collection, rare and valuable items.

12. How can I find out which books are held in the Library?
You need to use electronic or card catalogues for the Library.
The electronic catalogue is in open access on the Library website.
Card catalogues are located:
• 19 Mira Street, Room Б-303
• 4 Turgeneva Street, Catalogues Hall (2nd floor)
• 48 Kuybysheva Street, Catalogues Hall (2nd floor)

13. How should I fill out a request to order item in person?
Sample of a written request form (in russian):

Enter either the barcode from your Student Card or your group number with abbreviation of your institute into the request line «№ чит. билета» (Library Card Number).

14. Can I request an item online?
Online Order Service is available via VKontakte group.
The users having a Library card with both barcode and password can use the service “E-Library Card and Online Order” («Электронный формуляр и онлайн заказ литературы») either on the website or via UrFU Personal Account.

15. Where can I borrow fiction?
Fiction can be borrowed for a month in the following departments:
• Circulation Desk: Liberal Arts & Humanities (4 Turgeneva Street, Room 252)
• Circulation Desk: Natural Sciences (48 Kuybysheva Street, Room 254)
• Reading Room: Liberal Arts & Humanities (19 Mira Street, Room Б-203)

16. Can I loan an item from the Department of Rare Books?
The collection of the Department of Rare Books is for in-library use only in the interests of conservation and security.
Items from this collection may be viewed in the reading room of the Department of Rare Books: 4 Turgeneva Street, Room 356.

17. How do I know if something is borrowed?
The users having a Library card with both barcode and password can use the service «E-Library Card” on the website. Login with your personal barcode and password, find the header «Просмотр документов во временном пользовании» (“Viewing borrowed items”) and click «Поиск» (“Search” button). You will see all your times on loan. You can also renew the items clicking «Заказать» (“Request” button) in the detailed information of each item.

18. How can I access electronic resources outside the Library?
EZproxy access and authentication software is used for remote access to e-resources of the Library and University. Please consult the specialists of the Library Information Centres about using this system.

19. Can I access «Антиплагиат» (“Plagiarism”) system?
«Антиплагиат» system is available for UrFU faculty and staff via UrFU Personal Account.

20. Where can I find information about accessions?
We have Accessions Bulletin monthly placed on the Library website or in the Library VKontakte group.

21. Can I borrow books in summer vacation?
In summer you can borrow scientific materials and fiction provided that you have returned all the items loaned during spring semester no later than 30 June. Please note the restrictions concerning study materials – they may be borrowed only for the period of practical training.

22. Where can I receive bibliographic reference?
For a bibliographic reference you can apply to the following departments:
• Department of Information and Bibliography Services (19 Mira Street, Room Б-401),
• Humanities Information Centre (4 Turgeneva Street, Room 269),
• Natural Sciences Information Centre (48 Kuybysheva Street, Room 450)
• Ask a Librarian service on the Library website.

23. Can I request an item from another library?
You can place a request:
• via online request form on the Library website
• via online request form in «Доступная наука» (“Accessible Science”) VKontakte group
• in person visiting Interlibrary Loan departments (19 Mira Street, Room Б-301; 4 Turgeneva Street, Room 266, 48 Kuybysheva Street, Room 450).


24. How can I renew the borrowed items?
• You need to come to the Library with a Library / Student Card. If the item is not in the high-use category it may be renewed.
• The users having a Library card with both barcode and password can use the service “E-Library Card” («Электронный формуляр и онлайн заказ литературы») on the website.
• You can renew the borrowed items via VKontakte group.

25. What will happen if I return the item late?
Any borrower who fails to return an item in time will be fined in accordance with the Price for the Library Paid Services.

26. What shall I do if I lost an item?
You need to apply to the Circulation Desk where the item was borrowed. Firstly, librarians will check whether the item is returned already. If not, you will be asked to buy an equivalent item from a special list based on the teachers’ requests or on survey.

27. What shall I do if I lost a Library / Student Card?
If you have lost your Library Card you need to inform of that the Circulation Desk. On this day you will receive either a new Library Card (please bring a photo3*4) or a barcode in your Student Card.
If you have lost your Student Card you need to apply to the Institute Department where you study. In accordance with your loss report signed in the University Security Department a special sticker for a Student Card will be printed out on the Circulations Desks on 19 Mira Street (Room Б-201) and 4 Turgeneva Street (Room 252).


28. Where can I sign a loan slip?
A loan slip can be signed at the Library Circulation Desks:
• Circulation Desk: Liberal Arts and Humanities (4 Turgeneva Street, Room 252) – Ural Institute of Humanities, Institute of Public Administration and Entrepreneurship
• Circulation Desk: Natural Sciences (48 Kuybysheva Street, Room 254) – Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
• Circulation Desk: Technics & Engineering (19 Mira Street, room Б-201) – all other institutes

29. Are there forgiving days?
Officially “forgiving days” (the days when your debts to the Library may be forgiven and you can return overdue items without fine) are canceled.

30. Can I use the Library computers for my private needs?
In accordance with the Library Rules:
п. 9.7. All the computers can be used for working with University scientific and educational resources.
п. 10.6.4. Users are prohibited to play computer games; to view, copy or place materials or links to the materials with extremist content, pornography, discrediting honour and dignity; to use online communication services (chats, forums, etc.).
Users may use own laptops in the Library.

31. I want to place my study and methodical materials in the electronic repository. Whom should I apply for?
You need to apply to the Department of Information Analytical Systems and International Projects.

32. You have to present an abstract of your Thesis to the Library
A printed abstract of a thesis (in dupl.) to be defended in UrFU may be presented to the Department of Acquisitions and Accounting of Information Resources (19 Mira Street, Room Б-104 or 4 Turgeneva Street, Room 265).

33. Can I gift my books to the Library?
Please consult the Department of Acquisitions and Accounting of Information Resources (19 Mira Street, Room Б-104 or 4 Turgeneva Street, Room 265).

34. Are there vacancies in the Library?
All the questions concerning employment must be applied to the Library Administration: 19 Mira Street, Room Б-103, tel. 375-46-01.

35. Can I make photographs or videorecord in the Library?
Photographing and videorecording by phones are permitted including selfie and photos of items. Sharing your materials in social network do not forget to use the hashtag #библиотекаУрФУ. Professional long-lasting videorecording in the Library rooms for private purposes or for your institution is possible only on agreement with the Library Administration.

36. I have not found answer to my question in this list. Where can I apply for help?
You can use Ask a Librarian (Виртуальная справка) service or apply via VKontakte group (группу ВКонтакте). Also you may consult Bibliodictionary (Библиословаре in Russian) for unknown terms.
