Lesson 10. The Structure of UrFU Resources

The most popular answer of a first-year student to the question “What resources do you know and use for searching information?” is “Wikipedia”. The second popular answer is “Google or Yandex”.

Unfortunately, the confidence that Internet has EVERYTHING changes the algorithm of remembering information and devalues the process of searching since the average user normally selects a query bar and looks through the results at the first page only. Consequently, knowledge is unnecessary because everything can be found on the Internet… Nevertheless, awareness of the key resources could save time and, moreover, influence the quality of the decision taken.

What should we start overview of the resources with? It seems to us that understanding of the structure of institution resources is the key of success. Thus, to provide educational and scientific processes, two kinds of resources are available in UrFU. These are purchased (subscribed) and generated by University information electronic resources, including systems of online education.

Subscribed information resources (purchased):
Scientific Databases and Digital Libraries (40+);
Electronic Library System: «University Library ONLINE», «Lan’», and «Bibliokomplektator» (IPRbooks).

Information resources generated by UrFU:
Electronic Library Catalogue, Electronic Catalogue of Periodicals;
DSpace (UrFU Digital Scientific Repository);
− Digital Collection of Dissertations defended within UrFU — «Defenses Announcement»;
Database «Register of Opinions on Publication Possibility»;
UrFU Patent Base;
The e-learning system on the HyperMethod platform

The users can also search in the open-access resources available on the Library site’s section “Open-access Resources”.
