Exams and student days have passed by, the hot summer is raging outside. It means that it's time to pick up books with your favorite characters! The circulation desk of Foreign Literature (Turgeneva 4 st., room 356) invites readers to the new exhibition «Modern fiction». The exhibition presents works by popular authors of the last three decades: Stephen King, J.K. Rowling, Chuck Palahniuk, Suzanne Collins, Stephenie Meyer and others. You have been familiar with their books since childhood, but do you know the history of their creation? We offer a small selection of interesting facts about the works of your favorite authors. Japanese author Haruki Murakami is a great connoisseur of jazz. He has a unique collection of jazz records. His love of music is reflected in his novels. For instance, the work «Dance, dance, dance» got its name from a popular song by The Dells. You can visit our exhibition to get acquainted with this book in English. However, not only Murakami’s writing was influenced by music. American writer Stephenie Meyer, when creating «Twilight», was inspired by the first albums of the band My Chemical Romance. Meyer even offered the band to record the soundtrack for the first film of the saga, but Gerard Way (the band's frontman) refused. Folklore can also be a source of inspiration. For example, the king of horror, Stephen King used a classic Norwegian fairy tale «Three Goats, a Count and an evil Troll» as a basis for the novel «It». And the creator of the «Hunger Games» trilogy, Suzanne Collins, in its turn, was influenced by the ancient Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. The exhibition will last until 1st September.
