The Library is one of the leading structural subdivisions of Ural Federal University, an information center for educational and research processes complying with the priority directions of the University scientific research. The united library collection is open for all categories of users – from students to research associates. Being a member of the Russian Library Association and Russian Central Catalogue of Periodicals ARBIKON, the Library participates in many significant projects.
History of the Library
The history of the Library goes back to the establishment of the Ural State University in 1920. The core of the created stock comprised the library of the Ural Mining Institute founded in Ekaterinburg in 1917, as well as the books from the Imperial Alexander Lyceum (the former Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum), the documents dating from the 17th – 18th centuries, works by the mathematician Vasilyev and Senator Van der Vliet, items from Dolgorukov's and Golitsyn's Libraries.
In 1931, upon the establishment of Ural Polytechnic Institute and Sverdlovsk State University, the Library split into two subdivisions. In 2011, it was consolidated again with the establishment of the Ural Federal University. The Library has considerably expanded over these years.
Today it continues to develop by conducting innovative activities and mastering the Automated Library Information System RUSLAN. The Library provides access to the world information resources and follows the standards of the Quality Management System.
Today the Library is:
• An information resource center supporting educational and scientific processes;
• An element of the informational and educational environment of Ural Federal University aimed at facilitating information cooperation between lecturers and students in the search for the world electronic resources, including international research collaboration;
• A center for applied studies in the field library science (more than 400 scientific publications, 3 research projects registered at the University).
Collection: more than 2,500,000 items.
Number of users: more than 25,000.
Annual book circulation: more than 1,000,000 items.
Departments: 6 Circulation Desks, 4 Reading Rooms, 3 Information Centers.
14 branch libraries are integrated with the structure of UrFU Library.
