Koshansky Nikolai Fedorovich (1781-1831). Professor of Russian and Latin literature at the Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum (1811-1828), translator. Author of educational books on rhetoric, Russian and Latin grammar. He studied at Moscow University at the Faculty of Law and Philosophy (1799-1801), where he received a gold medal and at the age of 22 was awarded the title of Doctor of Philosophy. N. F. Koshansky taught at Moscow University Noble Boarding School, had a private practice.
By starting his work at the Lyceum, N. F. Koshansky was already a well-known publicist-writer, author of a number of textbooks, and ancient languages translator. He was fluent in Greek, Latin, French, German, and English. While teaching at the Lyceum, N. F. Koshansky wrote the textbook "General Rhetoric" especially for his pupils. Among lyceum students his "Handbook of Ancient Classical Literature" was popular. N. F. Koshansky managed to foster in his students an interest and love in literature. Lyceum poems by A. Pushkin, A. Illichevsky, A. Delvig, V. Küchelbecker testify to a deep knowledge of poetry, history and philosophy of the ancient world.
